Library

Catalog, circulation, reservations and fines.

Overview

A good library dies by a thousand unreturned books and an issue register nobody can total. Library runs the catalogue, circulation, reservations and fines on the member records that already exist — students and staff — so the desk moves fast and the overdue list writes itself.

Case study · Library

From an untotalled register to a self-writing overdue list

Representative scenario — illustrative

A 1,600-student school’s library issues books on a paper register — name, class, date — and a librarian who also teaches two periods a day tries to chase returns between classes.

Doing it by hand

The issue register runs to dozens of pages and nobody can total it, so the true count of books out on loan is unknown. Overdue reminders happen only when the librarian remembers a face, and at annual stock verification the gap between the register and the shelves is a shock. Reserving a popular title means a scribbled waitlist that gets lost.

The cheap-ERP trap

The cheap ERP digitised the issue register but ran on its own separate member list, so every student had to be re-entered and kept in sync by hand. It could issue and return, but it couldn’t send an overdue reminder, couldn’t hold a reservation, and its stock count drifted from reality within a term. Six months in, the librarian was back to the paper register, because at least the paper didn’t demand a second data-entry job.

With ez.school

ez.school runs circulation on the student and staff records that already exist, so there is no second member list to maintain — issue and return take seconds, reservation queues notify when a title comes back, and the overdue list sends its own reminders through the Communication app. Fines compute by your policy and post to the ledger, and stock verification becomes a checklist instead of an annual crisis.

Copies on the shelf versus on loan versus overdue — the overdue slice is the reminder list, already written, and the missing copies are next week’s stock check.

Inside the app

How Library works for you

A circulation desk that keeps up

Issue and return in seconds against student or staff records, reservation queues that notify when a title returns, and an overdue list with reminders sent through the Communication app — the librarian’s afternoon, given back.

A catalogue worth browsing

Titles, copies, sections and accession records with search that works; fines by policy, collected at the desk and recorded to the ledger. Stock verification becomes a checklist, not an annual crisis.

Evaluation questions

Library — asked and answered

Do members need separate library accounts?

No. Students and staff are already members — circulation runs on the same records as everything else.

How are fines calculated?

By your policy — per-day rates, grace days, caps and exemptions — computed automatically and recorded when collected.

Can we import our existing catalogue?

Yes. Bulk import brings titles and accession records in with validation; barcodes/accession numbers are preserved.
